This Week at the Club: December 17-23

Michael Yo

Main Showroom: The week starts with graduation shows. Tuesday night is a free-admission improv class graduation; the show is at 8 p.m. and doors open at 7:30. Just be advised that we won't have the kitchen open, but you can order drinks at the bar if you like. On Wednesday it's a stand-up class graduation, with a $10 ticket. Showtime is 7:30.

Thursday night belongs to Die Laughing Productions, and they are bringing the Merry Murder Mystery to the club for a third year in a row. It sold out the first two times and we have less than 50 tickets remaining for this edition, so plan ahead. Seats are $19.

Friday and Saturday you can catch Michael Yo doing his thing. He just released a new comedy album ("Blasian") and you can hear him every weekday on SiriusXM -- he's got his own talkshow on the EW channel, plus he's a host of Hits1 in Hollywood. Tickets are $20 and there are two shows each night.

Lounge Showroom: We have some excellent stand-up showcases on Friday and Saturday featuring some top-flight performers from around the country. Tickets are $17 Friday and $20 Saturday.

New Shows: DL Hughley and Benji Aflalo

We've got two more headliners on sale, one for each showroom. You can see the great DL Hughley the last weekend in April; this will be the second year in a row that he headlines the club. And the lounge showroom will host Benji Aflalo on Valentine's weekend. Benji is an in-demand comedy writer who co-created "Alone Together" with Esther Povitsky. These shows will be his DC Improv debut.

New Podcast: Dov Davidoff

Easily one of the most fascinating people you'll ever meet, Dov Davidoff returns to the Improv to close out 2018. (He headlines December 28-31.) We're chatting with him about his new kid, his recent memoir, his work on "Crashing" and a few other odds and ends. Bonus content: Keep listening at the end for the audio from our 2008 conversation with Dov.

Noah's Arc: Rescheduled Roy Wood and Dulce Sloan shows

We've got some schedule changes to report, courtesy of Trevor Noah!

1) Because Trevor lost his voice this week, Roy Wood Jr. is filling in for him on "The Daily Show" on December 6. That means Roy will miss his Thursday show here at the Improv. We got Tony Woods to fill in for Roy on Thursday. We also got Roy to add a 4 p.m. Saturday show, because every other show with Roy is already sold out.

2) Trevor Noah invited Dulce Sloan on tour with him, and some of the dates conflict with her shows scheduled here February 15-17. She has been moved to Feb. 28 - March 2.

Trevor Noah owes us a favor, right?

New Class: SNL Sketch Writing

Every year we try to bring in Ali Farahnakian, founder of the People's Improv Theater, to teach his wildly popular sketch writing class. Ali was a writer on "Saturday Night Live" for a hot minute, and he gives people the inside scoop on the writers room dynamic while helping them prepare sketches of their own. It's a two-day workshop, with a three-hour session each day. Two sections are now on sale, both spanning April 6-7.

And if you're a sketch fan, don't forget that Kevin McDonald of "The Kids in the Hall" will be also be running a two-day sketch workshop in early April.

New Shows: Erik Griffin and Ryan Davis

If you're bummed out for winter you can definitely look forward to April. Erik Griffin -- lately seen on "I'm Dying Up Here," and finishing up a long run on "Workaholics" -- will be headlining a weekend here for the first time since 2014. He's awesome. Look for him April 12-14.

Easter Weekend (April 18-20) now belongs to Ryan Davis. Ryan did his first shows with us in 2017, then came back to headline the first weekend of 2018. The viral video star returns again for five shows this spring.
