DCI Update: August 15

Jim Ross

This Week at the Club

Well, there's a lot. We kick thinks off Wednesday night with a "Five Minutes to Funny" stand-up class graduation show. Tickets are $10. At the same time, we'll be running the August edition of Happy Hour Trivia in our lounge. On Thursday night, we have two shows in the big room, as Majic 102.3 presents Huggy Lowdown, Chris Paul and Friends. Those shows are $20, and they're almost sold out.

Our weekend was originally going to be Damon Wayans Jr., but he canceled -- so now it's a local comedy party to celebrate our 25th anniversary. All shows are $15, which is about as cheap a ticket as you'll see at the DC Improv on a weekend. GET ON IT! Friday night is a Best of DC Showcase, and Saturday night will be our Comedy Kumite stand-up competition.

Lincoln Cottage

Tickets are now on sale for the first show of our fall series with Lincolns Cottage. It's a September 27 showcase featuring stand-ups who are also veterans (Tim Miller, Cerrome Russell, Kj Pettersen and Michael Garvey). Tickets are only $5 and you can get them right here.

New Classes

We added another section of Beginning Improv that starts in October, so now we have three available sections for the fall - your choice of Saturday mornings, Monday nights or Wednesday.

Washington Post Express poll

The Express is doing its annual online poll to find people's favorite entertainment venues. If you're a fan of the Improv, we'd love to have your vote in the comedy category. Here's the link to the poll.

Best of DC / Kumite weekend

25 years

Early this week, we got word that Damon Wayans Jr. was canceling his shows at the Improv (August 18-20) to take an acting job. We're as thrilled about it as you are.

But lemonade from lemons, right? We're now devoting the weekend to DC's comedy scene. On Friday night (August 18), we're celebrating our 25th anniversary with a "Birthday Bash" showcase featuring five of DC's best local performers. Then on Saturday (August 19), we'll have eight of the DMV's finest competing in a the latest edition of our "Comedy Kumite" tournament. Friday or Saturday, the tickets are just $15. It's a very affordable way to have a lot of laughs. If you're in town, come join the good times ...

DCI Update: August 8

Jim Ross

This Week at the Club

Wrestling royalty comes to the Improv on Thursday night. Jim Ross, the iconic announcer / promoter / talent scout, will be telling stories and answering fan questions as part of his "Ringside" show. General admission tickets are $25, and the VIP seats (which include a pre-show meet-and-greet) are $75.

We're sold out Friday through Sunday in the main showroom with Jo Koy, but you can get tickets for the Friday evening DMV showcase in our lounge. Those are $17.

Happy Birthday to Us (new shows)

We officially turn 25 years old this month, and we're celebrating on Friday, August 18 with a "Best of DC Birthday Bash." Five excellent local comics will be performing, for an excellently cheap ticket price of $15. Those are on sale now.

Lincoln Cottage and Dupont Underground

We're happy to announce our collaboration with the Lincoln Cottage from 2016 has been renewed for another three-show comedy series. Starting next month, we'll be bringing comedy shows to the historic home located on the campus of DC's Old Soldiers Home. Each show has some thematic tie-in to the cottage or to Lincoln -- our September 27 event will feature comedians who have served in the military. More info will be posted here once the show goes on sale.

We'll also be back at the Dupont Underground in September, with another show in the tunnels underneath Dupont Circle. Pencil in September 19 -- and we'll let you know once the show format has been settled.

DCI Update: August 1

Tony Rock

This Week at the Club

Great times at ye olde Improv this week: Tony Rock is back in town for six shows, Thursday to Sunday. Tickets are $20. (Saturday is already sold out, and Friday is close behind, so hustle up.)

In the lounge showroom, there's a showcase of former stand-up class students on Friday night. Tickets are $10. And our Next Wave series continues on Saturday with comics recommended by Mike Birbiglia: Jacqueline Novak and Chris Laker. Two shows that evening, and they're $17.

Hooray for Birbigs

Speaking of Birbiglia ... the Improv had a contingent at the Just for Laughs comedy festival last week, and it was great to see Mike receive the award for stand-up comedian of the year. We're always proud that the Improv had some part in Mike's comedy story, dating back to his days as a door guy and Georgetown student. Congrats!

New Shows

We had Jak Knight headline our lounge back in March 2017. He's coming back for another go-round this November 3-4. Those tickets will go on sale shortly.
