DCI Update: September 18

Moshe Kasher

This Week at the Club

There is a LOT happening this week. In the main showroom, Moshe Kasher headlines Thursday through Saturday. He'll be joined by Matty Litwack and Brittany Carney, and the tickets are $20 general admission. On Sunday night we host our first ever Rockin' Mic Night, which puts comics on stage with the HariKaraoke Band to joke and sing. After the show we open the stage to audience members who want to sing with the band. Tickets are $10.

In the lounge showroom, we start off with Happy Hour Trivia on Thursday. That's free admission, but reservations are recommended. Friday night we have a DMV Showcase for $17. And on Saturday we have the monthly shows with ComedySportz improv. The early show is all-ages (meaning you can bring kids under 18, and the comedy is "clean"), while the late show is ages 18 and older. Tickets are $15.

New Shows

We're happy to announce the DC Improv debut of Andy Zaltzman, which will take place on November 8. (Andy and John Oliver are the guys who created and hosted "The Bugle" podcast.) And if you're already looking forward to the end of football season, we've got Bryan Callen on sale for Super Bowl weekend.

Make Up Party on Tuesday

It's almost here! Tomorrow night at Dupont Underground, 13 comedy teams will compete for $250 by doing their best five minutes on the subject of animals. The Make Up Party starts at 8 p.m. and you can get your tickets through Dupont Underground. This involves sketch, improv, stand-up and a few wild-cards ... so variety is the key. Plus, all ticket revenue goes to Dupont Underground, a great arts nonprofit.

Time Machine Roasters (October 4)

The lineup of roasters has been set for the next Time Machine Roast, on October 4. It's exactly what it sounds like -- people dressed as historic figures insult each other. It's a blast. On the dais:

  • Ahmed Vallejos - Manuel Noriega
  • Cerrome Russell - James Brown
  • Benjy Himmelfarb - Tsar Nicholas II
  • Tim Miller - Chuck Berry
  • Denise Taylor - Ayn Rand
  • Linsay Deming - JonBenet Ramsey
  • Dylan Meyer - Leonardo da Vinci

Low Ticket Warning

Tim DillonWe usually do these on Wednesday, but our Director of Low Ticket Warnings was out of town. But the people demand their warnings! Here are shows that are sold out or headed that way. The Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Bert Kreischer (September 28-30): We have six schedulled shows and as of right now they are all sold out. We should know shortly if any additional shows are on the way.

  • Dave Attell (October 13-15): Both Saturday shows are sold out. There are 97 tickets left for the Friday late show, and the Friday early show is just under half full.

Low Ticket Warning

Tony RobertsFootball starts this week! Here's the plan: Check your team's schedule, figure out every game day where your team is going to get your depressed, and buy tickets for the week right after to lift your spirits. We'll get through this together. Here are shows that are already sold out or are heading in that direction. The Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Tony Roberts (September 7-10): The Saturday late show is sold out, and as of this post there are only 8 seats left for Saturday 7:30 (which means it will sell out today). The Friday 9:45 show is also half sold.
  • School Showcase (September 8): Our Friday night lounge show (tickets $10) has just 8 seats left.
  • Bert Kreischer (September 28-30): The five original shows are sold out. The Thursday 9:45 show that we added has just 97 tickets left.

DCI Update: September 5

Tony Roberts

This Week at the Club

We start our fall season with the Motor City Motormouth -- Tony Roberts is headlining the main showroom Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are $20. Over in the lounge showroom, you can catch a Friday showcase of grads from our comedy school's stand-up class. That show is $10 (and tickets are almost gone). Saturday night, we have a stand-up showcase with some comics from the DMV scene. That show is $17.

New Shows

Since our last update, we've got two new shows to tell you about, both in our lounge. On October 13, we're once again working with DC Science Comedy, and this time they're bringing in Matthew Broussard for two shows. (He has a degree in applied math AND he's appeared on "Conan." Impressive.) We also tacked on another DMV showcase for October 20.

Make Up Party teams set (September 19)

We have officially announced the teams for the 9/19 Make Up Party at Dupont Underground. It's a cool event -- we gave all these teams the subject of "animals" and they have the next few weeks to polish up their best five minutes incorporating that theme in some way. The funniest team (as decided by the audience) gets a $250 prize. You can see the lineup of sketch troupes, improv troupes, stand-ups and wild cards right here.

Back to school

We have two spots left in our Beginning Improv class that starts this Saturday. It meets once a week for six weeks. If shoving the kids out the door this week made you nostalgic for your school days, here's where you can register.

Low Ticket Warning

Rod ManOn Labor Day weekend, you should really celebrate the fruits of your labor, by buying comedy tickets. We're pretty sure that's how the economy stays afloat. Here are upcoming shows that are sold out or trending in that direction. The Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Rod Man (Aug. 31-Sept. 3):  Saturday 7:30 is sold out. We've got about 100 seats left for both Thursday 7:30 and Saturday 9:45. The Friday early show is also more than half full.
  • Tony Roberts (September 7-10): Each of the Saturday shows is more than half full.
  • Sommore (September 15-17): The five original shows are sold out. We added a Sunday 9:45, but as of this message there are only 125 tickets left to that, and they're moving ... don't wait if you want to see her.
  • Bert Kreischer (September 28-30): Like Sommore, the five original shows are sold out. The added Thursday 9:45 is creeping up on half full.
  • Dave Attell (October 13-15): There are 12 tickets left for the Saturday early show, and a little more than 40 left for Saturday late. The Friday late show is also half full.
  • wellRED: From Dixie With Love (October 26-29): Here we go: Thursday show has 75 tickets left. Friday early show has 85 left. The Saturday early show is sold out, and the late show is almost half full. The Sunday show has 120 tickets left.
  • Iliza Shlesinger (November 16-18): Both shows on Saturday are basically sold out. (There is just 1 VIP seat left for Saturday 7:00.) At this point there are less than 90 seats left for the Friday late show. The other two shows (Friday early and Thursday) are just under half full.

The following shows are entirely sold out:

A ****load of new shows

Rod Man

Your office might be slow this week, but ours isn't. Since Monday, we've added FIVE new shows. You should go to all of them, but if you only make it to three or four we won't judge you.

  • October 11: Jess Hilarious. This is the DC Improv headlining debut of a social media superstar. Jess is from Baltimore, so show some DMV pride and check her out.
  • October 12: Comedy Kumite Champions. We're getting eight former winners of our stand-up tournament and pitting them against eachother in a battle royale. This should be a kick-ass show.
  • December 14-17: Hypnotist Flip Orley. He's back! Our favorite hypnotist will be here in the heart of holiday season. Alert your office manager that there's a really fun holiday outing waiting to happen ...
  • January 11-14: Orny Adams. He's recording a new comedy special in a few weeks, so by January he'll be rolling through with tons of fresh material.
  • January 26-28: Lavell Crawford. You better call Saul, or whatever your best friend's name is. These will all sell out.

DCI Update: August 28

Rod Man

This Week at the Club

We're keeping it simple this week! One headliner, no lounge shows. We've got six shows with Rod Man, the former "Last Comic Standing" champion. He'll be joined by feature act Corey Marshall. The showtimes are standard (7:30 Thursday through Sunday, plus 9:45 seatings Friday and Saturday), and the tickets are $27. The Saturday early show is already sold out.

New Shows

Sommore sold out her five original shows, so she added a sixth. It's on Sunday, September 17 at 9:45. Tickets are on sale now. We're also trying something new on September 24. At Rockin' Mic Night, comedians will take the stage, tell a story to set up a song, and then sing it with the backing of the HariKaraoke Band. Even cooler, once the show is done, HariKaraoke sticks around for a live-band karaoke party with the audience. Tickets are $10. You can also catch the next edition of The Time Machine Roast on October 4, a Wednesday night.

In our lounge, we have added new dates for Happy Hour Trivia (September 21) and ComedySportz improv (September 23). The eleventh installment of our Next Wave series is also on the books. Ryan Conner, recommended by Wanda Sykes, will be here October 14.

Ms. Pat's Book

Our friend Ms. Pat (who last headlined the club back in April) has released her autobiography, to some very nice reviews and brisk sales. You can get it at Amazon.com and a bunch of other places. Her personal story is pretty amazing, and you can get a preview if you listen to our podcast with her from April 7.

Low Ticket Warning

Rod ManWe know summer is almost over, but every trip to the Improv is like a mini-vacation. So if you lock in tickets ahead of time, SUMMER NEVER DIES. Neat, right? Here are shows that are sold out or trending in that direction. The Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Open Mic Night (August 24): You can't technically "sell" out a free admission show, but we do take reservations ... and way more than half the seats are already accounted for.
  • Rod Man (Aug. 31-Sept. 3):  Thursday is more than half sold, and we're down to 60 tickets for the Saturday early show.
  • Tony Roberts (September 7-10): Tony makes his first 2017 appearance on this report! We're more than half sold for the Saturday early show.
  • Sommore (September 15-17): Hustle up. Friday and Saturday are sold out, and as of this posting there are just TWELVE tickets left for Sunday.
  • Bert Kreischer (September 28-30): The five original shows are all sold out! Lucky for you, Bert added a Thursday late show (9:45).
  • Dave Attell (October 13-15): We now have only 20 tickets left for Saturday early, and 40 left for Saturday late. The Friday late show is also  half full.
  • Gad Elmaleh (October 19-21):  Right this moment, Gad has sold out all five scheduled shows. We should know in the near future if he wants to add any.
  • wellRED: From Dixie With Love (October 26-29): The Saturday early show is sold out. We're also more than half sold for Thursday 7:30 and Friday 7:30. Plus the Sunday 7:39 is creeping up on half full.
  • Iliza Shlesinger (November 16-18): There is just 1 ticket (a VIP seat) left for Saturday 7:00. There are only 36 tickets for Saturday 9:30. The Friday 9:30 show has only 120 seats left, and the other two shows are both close to half sold. She's going to sell out all of these shows. You've been warned.

DCI Update: August 22

Jim Ross

This Week at the Club

Crazy variety this week. On Wednesday night the Time Machine Roast happens in our main showroom for the first time. (Local comics get in costume as historic figures and insult each other.) It's hilarious, and it's only $10. Then on Thursday we have our monthly Open Mic Night.

The headliners start Friday when Michael Yo comes to town. He's the latest performer in our "Next Wave" series, and he's recommended to you by Jo Koy. ($20 tickets.) Sunday night belongs to Chingo Bling, a Mexican-American comedy star. His VIP tickets are sold out, but you can get $20 general admission tickets.

And if all that weren't enough, you can see ComedySportz improv in our lounge on Saturday night. The 7:30 early show is "all ages," while the 9:45 show is adults only. Either seating is $15 admission.

Kumite Champions!

Saturday night (August 19)  was a great time at the club: On short notice, we moved our "Comedy Kumite" competition from the lounge to the main showroom, but both shows still sold out. (Thank you DC!) With the biggest audiences in Kumite history, we crowned two new champions: Lafayette Wright on the early show and Dylan Meyer on the late show. We'll be back this fall with the second ever "Tournament of Champions," featuring past Kumite winners in one ferocious evening of comedy.

New Shows

Check out the lounge schedule for some nice additions. We're having another Comedy School Showcase on September 8, and we also added DMV showcases for September 9 and September 22.

Low Ticket Warning

kumiteWe love you and we want you to be happy. However, as a comedy club, we only view happiness through the lens of attending comedy shows. Therefore, you should get tickets to these shows before they sell out. Hey, we're complex. The Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Huggy Lowdown, Chris Paul and Friends (August 17): The early show on Thursday night is sold out. There are only 32 seats left for the late show (starting at 9:30).
  • Comedy Kumite (August 19): Our early seating (7:30) is half sold. And because tickets are just $15, it'll probably end up all sold. Plan ahead.
  • Rod Man (Aug. 31-Sept. 3): We have 120 seats left for the Saturday early show, and the Thursday show is also half sold.
  • Sommore (September 15-17): Both Saturday shows are now sold out. There are 37 seats left for the Friday early show, and the Friday late show is half full. The Sunday show is also more than half full (117 tickets left).
  • Bert Kreischer (September 28-30): There are 19 tickets left for Bert's Thursday show. Friday and Saturday are sold out.

  • Iliza Shlesinger (November 16-18): She's going to sell out every show, so don't wait. Right now we have 3 tickets left for Saturday 7 p.m., and about 100 left for Saturday 9:30. The Friday late show (9:30) is also about half sold at this point.
