DCI Update: September 25

Moshe Kasher

This Week at the Club

Bert Kreischer has six shows in the main showroom Thursday through Saturday. They're all sold out.

But we can still help you scratch the comedy itch. On Friday and Saturday we're running DMV showcases in our lounge. Each show features five different comedians, and we've got a different lineup for each night. Each of those shows is $17 general admission. Here's the page for Friday, and here's the page for Saturday.

New Shows

The next DC Improv pun competition is now on sale for November 2 -- there are two events that make up the show, and you can compete in either of them. Get all the details right here.

We're also happy to once again be a part of the Bentzen Ball, the comedy festival put on by Brightest Young Things. We'll be hosting a Saturday afternoon stand-up show with the stars of the CBS sitcom Superior Donuts. That includes Jermaine Fowler and Rell Battle (both of DC), plus "Anchorman" star David Koechner.

Going Local

All our available shows for the next 12 days are showcases for local talent. There's the DMV showcases this weekend, then next week we've got the Time Machine Roast, a comedy school stand-up grad show, and the Comedy Kumite Tournament of Champions. Help out the local arts scene and enjoy a lot of laughs ...

DCI Update: September 20

Comedy Kumite

Schedule Shuffle

The best laid plans, right? We had Roy Wood Jr. scheduled to headline October 6-8, but he scored a great TV gig that conflicts with the Friday shows. So now he will just be performing October 7-8. Moving in to that Friday spot? Our Comedy Kumite Tournament of Champions, a "best of the best" comedy competition with excellent local talent. Tickets for that are $15.

New Improv Class

... and we mean completely new. We've never offered it before. Anna Bethel will be teaching "Reading the Room" for five weeks, starting November 6. It's geared toward people with some improv training. She'll be giving a bunch of practical advice on feeling out a crowd -- which can be the difference between a good performance and a GREAT performance.

Make Up Party Winners

Congratulations to the sketch troupe Bad Medicine, the winners of our "Make Up Party" event at Dupont Underground on Tuesday night. The challenge was to come up with animal-themed comedy; they came out with costumes, and we even got to see a bird regurgitate a (gummy) worm. That's commitment.

Lincoln Cottage kids improv (October 17)

We're doing a three-show series with President Lincoln's Cottage this fall, and the second show has just been announced! ComedySportz will be doing a kids show on October 17, and tickets are only $5. The show is good for kids as young as first grade. Here's the link for tickets. And if you want to get tickets to the first show in the series -- a September 27 showcase of miltiary veterans doing stand-up -- hurry up. Just 5 tickets left for that one.
