This Week at the Club: May 28 - June 3

Ari Shaffir

We open festivities on Wednesday with Frank Caliendo, but that show is already sold out. Thursday we have a private event.

So we turn our eyes to Friday, when hometown hero Ari Shaffir starts his weekend run of shows. Tickets are $25 and Saturday is already sold out, so hustle up if you want to see him. He's here through Sunday night.

There's also all kinds of activity in our lounge. Friday night we have a Comedy School Showcase at 7:30, and then a DMV showcase at 9:45. Tickets are $10 for the early show and $17 for the late show. On Saturday you can see the monthly ComedySportz improv shows. The 7:30 seating is "all-ages," meaning you can bring your kids. The 9:45 "Late Night Improv" show is for people 18 and older. Tickets for either of those shows are $15.

And we close out the lounge weekend with the Make Up Party. Fourteen teams are lined up, and each one will present its best five minutes of comedy featuring the theme of travel. The best one (as decided by the audience) gets a cash prize. Tickets are just $5 and that show starts at 7 p.m.

New Shows: Steve Byrne, Jason Mewes

We know summer is just starting, but now you can plan how to close it out in style. Steve Byrne returns to the DC Improv from August 30 to September 2, bringing his latest hour of material and probably a good-looking dark suit. Also on sale: Hollywood cult favorite Jason Mewes -- the Jay from "Jay and Silent Bob" -- will be telling stories from his turbulent life on November 7. It's one night only and there's already a bit of buzz about this, so plan ahead if you want to see him.

Michael Blackson

Michael Blackson is coming, but by the time you read this it is already too late to get tickets. All eleven shows are sold out. Yeah, that's right, eleven shows are sold out. The guy is a star.

But we got some options! If you're looking for good times Friday or Saturday night, check out the DMV showcases in our lounge. Tickets are $17 for the Friday shows, and then $20 for the Saturday shows. The lineup changes each night so you should probably go twice.

New Shows: Story District, Nate Bargatze

Good times ahead! On July 10, the venerable storytelling organization Story District will bring its monthly Tuesday show to the DC Improv. The theme is "Up S**t Creek" -- so you're going to get eight different stories about getting into (and sometimes out of) trouble. Tickets for that are $20.

Looking ahead to the fall, we've got yet ANOTHER DC Improv debut on the schedule. The great Nate Bargatze will be bringing his endlessly entertaining brand of comedy to the club for six shows, October 4-7. There's tons of video on Nate, because he's been on "The Tonight Show" half a dozen times. Here are a few clips to get you started.
