New Class: YOU workshop

David Razowsky is a fantastic improv instructor and performer. We had him here a few years ago to teach a two-day master class to a small group of students. He's coming back this June with a different workshop: YOU. From the official description:

"With the YOU workshop you’ll enter the world of personal awareness and presentness, of the excitement of knowing what to do the moment the moment arrives! YOU are in charge, and this workshop will be a study of--and a practice of--you connecting to you. YOU are the boss of YOU. This is the work that Razowsky’s most excited to share with you."

If you're a dedicated student of the art of improv comedy, check it out. And in the meantime, enjoy this clip of Razowsky on stage with a few people you might know.

Big congratulations to Cherilyn Crowe and Rachel Gross, the winners of the two events at our January 31 Pun DMV competition. This was the first time the pun contest was held in the main showroom, and it was sold out. So naturally, we'll be back in the main showroom on May 16. You can see the "Freestyle" event entries for Cherilyn and Rachel below -- Cherilyn's was the winning routine for that event, while Rachel won the Tournament event.

Low Ticket Warning

Bryan CallenCan you put a price on peace of mind? Yes, yes you can. It's the cost of a comedy ticket bought in advance, before a show sells out. Here are events at the club that are filling up (or already full). The lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Bryan Callen (February 1-3): Friday and Saturday are gone. We have about 85 tickets available for Thursday, as of this post.
  • DMV Showcases (February 2-3): There are 15 tickets left for the Saturday early show in our lounge, and 13 left for the Saturday late show. (The Friday late show is about half full.)
  • Godfrey (February 8-11): Both Saturday shows are now sold out. We're also down to 68 tickets for the Friday early show, and 125 for the Friday late show.
  • Nimesh Patel (February 23-24): These shows are in our lounge, and the main showroom is already sold out this weekend. We're confident these are gonna go. The Saturday early show has 17 tickets left, and the Friday late show is just about half full (32 tickets left).
  • Vir Das (March 2-4): Friday and Saturday are full. Sunday has 90 tickets left.
  • Jessica Kirson (March 2-4): Over in our lounge showroom, Jessica's Saturday early show is now past half sold.
  • Bob Marley (March 8-11): Only 75 tickets left for the Saturday early show.
  • Jim Norton (March 22-24): Saturday is getting close ... 92 seats left for the early show and 110 left for the late show.
  • DL Hughley (May 4-6): Each of the scheduled Saturday shows is sold out. There's around 100 - 110 tickets left for each of the other three shows.
  • Margaret Cho (May 18-19): Each of the Saturday shows is now past half sold (and VIP tickets for all shows are all snapped up).

The following shows are entirely sold out:

Our first show of the week is a pun competition on Wednesday night, and it's sold out. Oh yeah. Bryan Callen then comes to town to take over the showroom Thursday through Saturday. Tickets to see Bryan are $22, and we're already sold out for Saturday.

In the lounge, our Friday early show -- a showcase of comedy school grads -- is sold out. We have DMV Showcases ($17 tickets) the rest of the way. One on Friday at 9:45, and then two on Saturday evening.

We're closed Sunday, cuz it's the Super Bowl.

New Shows: Michael Blackson, murder and more

We'll do this in calendar order. The 12th edition of Comedy Kumite was last weekend, so the 13th is now scheduled for March 31 in our lounge. (It's our stand-up comedy tournament, and it always sells out the lounge because it's awesome.) The guys from Die Laughing Productions are also coming back this spring with "Smooth Criminal," a murder mystery comedy show that doubles as a Michael Jackson tribute show. That's on April 11.

Last but certainly not least, we have once again trusted Michael Blackson with Memorial Day weekend. He did 11 shows in four days in 2017, because the demand is huge. All you advance planners, get on it.

January 16, 2018

We had some comedy competitions over the weekend, and we have to give a quick shout-out to the winners. Mia Jackson was the champion at Comedy Kumite on January 13 -- we held tournaments at 7:30 and 9:45, and she won both of them.

On Sunday night, the sketch team Designer Breeds won our Make Up Party challenge, with a great country music send-up.
