Pun-stars, a Make Up Party and more

Make up PartyThe week of the Super Bowl, we're having a colossal sporting event of our own. The Pun DMV competition will be taking place in our main showroom for the first time. We just set a lineup for the Freestyle competition (prepared pun monologues) that features 7 pun competition vets and 5 new faces: Aaron Schwartzbaum, Jesse Rifkin, Rachel Gross, Daniel Riker, Sid Singh, Alex Snider, Sean McGrath, Megan McDonell, Cherilyn Crowe, Joe Dawson, Tony Lopez, Nate Sans. If you want to watch the madness, it's only $6.

In lounge showroom news, the Make Up Party is back! We started the first version of this event in 2015. People were given a subject one hour before the start of the event, then scrambled to get their performances ready to go. It was very cool to watch -- but it's also VERY tough to get stand-up and sketch performances ready in one hour, starting from scratch. The revamped edition debuted at Dupont Underground in fall 2017. Now, comedians know the theme well in advance, and show up at the Improv ready to rock. (And appropriately enough, the theme for January 14 is MUSIC.) Teams can be one to six people, and the performance that makes the audience laugh the hardest gets a cash prize. If you have any questions about the show, e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We've also got one new show to announce for the spring. Andy Woodhull (Conan, Fallon, Comedy Central) will be headlining our lounge showroom April 13-14, the heart of Cherry Blossom season.

New Shows: Michelle Wolf, D.L. Hughley, Hodgetwins and more

michellewolfJust in time for holiday shopping, we have THREE big acts to announce. In February, Michelle Wolf makes her DC Improv headlining debut, fresh off her great new HBO special. She's here Feb. 22-24. That weekend closes out with fitness / comedy / YouTube sensations the Hodgetwins, who'll be doing two shows in the main showroom on Feb. 25.

Looking way ahead to the spring, we are very happy that D.L. Hughley is on the way. He's one of the Original Kings of Comedy, and it is a treat to see him in an intimate venue. Definitely plan ahead for those shows, May 4-6.
