New Shows: Story District, Nate Bargatze

Good times ahead! On July 10, the venerable storytelling organization Story District will bring its monthly Tuesday show to the DC Improv. The theme is "Up S**t Creek" -- so you're going to get eight different stories about getting into (and sometimes out of) trouble. Tickets for that are $20.

Looking ahead to the fall, we've got yet ANOTHER DC Improv debut on the schedule. The great Nate Bargatze will be bringing his endlessly entertaining brand of comedy to the club for six shows, October 4-7. There's tons of video on Nate, because he's been on "The Tonight Show" half a dozen times. Here are a few clips to get you started.

This Week at the Club: May 14-20

Wil Sylvince

This is going to be a great and unique week at the Improv, with variety you'll rarely see in a one-week run. We open up Tuesday with a sold-out show starring Ismo, the biggest comedian to come out of Finland. Wednesday night we're sold out with the latest edition of Pun DMV, our pun competition. Friday and Saturday in our main showroom are already sold out with the iconic Margaret Cho taking the stage.

So what can you still get into? We've got free admission Thursday for two excellent events. The main showroom hosts our monthly open mic night, while the lounge has the 10th Anniversary edition of our monthly trivia night.

On Friday and Saturday in our lounge, you can see Wil Sylvince, a NYC favorite making his Improv headlining debut. Tickets are $17 Friday and $20 Saturday.

And we're closing out the week in the main showroom when DC Science Comedy returns. For $17, you can see Dhaya Lakshminarayanan make her DCI debut.

Brandon T. Jackson

It's pretty straightforward this week. We're open Thrusday through Sunday with Brandon T. Jackson in the main showroom. You may know him as Alpa Chino from "Tropic Thunder," or from "Roll Bounce," or from "Lottery Ticket," or from seeing him perform at the club the last two years. Tickets are $22 on Saturday and $20 all other days.

The lounge will be hosting DMV showcases on both Friday and Saturday with a different lineup each night. So you should come both nights! It's $17 on Friday and $20 on Saturday.

Low Ticket Warning

DL HughleyWe usually do these on Wednesday, but the guy who does the ticket warnings is going on vacation. And thanks to our millions of fans, skipping a week is not an option. Anyhow, we're sold out for 10 shows with DL Hughley this week, which you totally saw coming if you read these things regularly. Here are other events that are trending toward sold out. The lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

This Week at the Club: April 30-May 6

DL Hughley

We get started this Wednesday with a stand-up class graduation show. Tickets for that are $10. After that, the main showroom belongs to D.L. Hughley, who has already sold out all 10 of his scheduled shows for the week as he prepares to record his next comedy special in Philadelphia later this month.

You can still get tickets to the shows in our lounge, for now. We have another DMV showcase featuring five local comics on Friday. Seatings are at 7:30 and 9:45, and tickets are $17. On Saturday, ComedySportz improv stops in for its monthly lounge shows. The family-friendly all-ages show is at 7:30 and the "Late Night Improv" show is at 9:45. Those shows are $15.

New Shows: Gina Yashere and Dave Rubin

We've had a schedule change for June: Bruce Bruce has opted to move his shows (June 7-10) to later in the year (TBD). We've got two new faces filling that hole on the schedule. Thursday night, June 7, will see the DC Improv headlining debut of Dave Rubin. He's the host of the popular "Rubin Report" podcast, and he's making a return to stand-up as he tours the country.

The remainder of the weekend goes to the great Gina Yashere. She's a star in the U.K., and she's on her way up here in the U.S. -- Gina is a regular on "The Daily Show," she was just featured on season 2 of Netflix's "The Standups" and she's been all over "The Tonight Show" and HBO.

Video for everyone below.

New Shows: Chalk Talk and John Crist

Last week we added two fun one-nighters. On June 6, 106.7 The Fan is bringing its "Chalk Talk" series to the club. Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier (of the "Grant and Danny Show") will be on stage with Nationals' close Sean Doolittle, breaking down the Nats' season and having a Q&A with the audience. A portion of the ticket proceeds go to the Purple Heart. If you're a baseball fan, definitely check it out.

Looking way ahead, we've got John Crist lined up to make his DC Improv debut on August 16. It sold out in less than 24 hours, but we are seeing if it's possible to ad shows. John has become an online sensation with his videos sending up Christian culture. Check out some of his stand-up and sketch clips below.
