Pablo FranciscoSpring is the time for love! So when you tell your date that you blew it and didn't get comedy tickets in time, that's going to ruin your season. This list is everything on our schedule that's trending toward sold out (or in some cases, the tickets are already gone). Lounge is 60 seats, main showroom is 285:

  • Pablo Francisco (March 30-April 2): There are 14 tickets left for Saturday 7:30, and we're past half full for the Saturday late show. We are also at about 60 percent capacity for the Friday early show.
  • Adele Givens (April 13-15): We're down to the last 16 seats for the Saturday early show, and both the Friday early show and Saturday late show are half sold.
  • The Tony Perkins Show (April 29): 23 tickets left for this lounge show.
  • Beltway Pundits (May 2): There are 15 seats left for the next pun competition in our lounge. (And remember, buying a ticket lets you compete in the night's final event.)
  • If I Were You (May 3): This podcast taping is the DC Improv debut of the comedy team of Jake and Amir. It's now half sold.
  • Bruce Bruce (May 4-7): Only 70 tickets left for Saturday 7 p.m., and Saturday 9 p.m. is half sold.
  • Tom Papa (May 11-13): There are 86 tickets left for Saturday 7:30 (which is probably the big pre-Mothers-Day-going-out show).
  • The Pump and Dump (May 17): Now just 8 tickets available for the ultimate moms' night out.
  • Craig Robinson (May 18-21): Friday and Saturday are sold out. There are 65 seats left for Thursday and Sunday is half sold.
  • Michael Blackson (May 25-28): Memorial Day weekend. Both the scheduled Saturday shows (7 p.m. and 9 p.m.) are filling up ... 120 seats left for the early show, 110 for the later show.
  • Frank Caliendo (June 2-4): Only 13 tickets left for Frank's Saturday early show.
  • Jo Koy (August 11-12): His Netflix special just came out, so business is going to pick up ... The Saturday 7 p.m. and the Saturday 9 p.m. shows are half full.

DCI Update: March 28

This Week at the Club ...

Thursday through Sunday we've got a familiar face in town as Pablo Francisco returns for six shows.

In the lounge showroom, trivia night is back on Thursday. Then we've got a DMV showcase on Friday, that features Stavros Halkias and THREE comics from the RT America show "Redacted Tonight": Lee Camp, Naomi Karavani and John F. O'Donnell.

New Shows

tonyrockTony Rock is coming back in August, and tickets are now on sale. That's a long way off, but Tony is really, really good, so make a note on your calendar.

We've also got a bunch of lounge things going on. When Awesome Con returns to DC in June, we'll have some "Geek Night Comedy" shows on Friday. The short-form improv troupe Porkchop Volcano does a Thursday night show on April 20.

If you're in Culpeper ...

Naturally, you should come to the Improv every night we're open. But if you're out in the Culpeper area and you're aren't driving to DC on April 1, there's a cool comedy event in your neighborhood. The Library of Congress' Packard Campus is presenting a compilation of Richard Pryor's appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Those gigs were during the early stages of Pryor's career, when he was really developing his talent as a physical comedian. Here's the event listing.

Wave Power

Novak and LakerFor our 25th anniversary celebration, we wanted to celebrate the past and the future. So we asked amazing headliners to tell us about comedians that you need to see. Their choices then headline one of our showrooms in what we call the Next Wave series. We've already featured comics picked by Dave Attell, Ari Shaffir, John Oliver and Tony Rock.

This week, we expanded the series with shows picked by Mike Birbiglia! Jacqueline Novak and Chris Laker will co-headline our lounge this summer. (They were Mike's opening acts when he stopped in for two special shows on March 14.) Here's alll the upcoming Next Wave shows that are currently on sale.

April 5: Martin Moreno & Alfred Robles

recommended by Gabriel Iglesias

April 15: Mike Speirs
recommended by Bob Marley

June 2-4: Marshall Brandon
recommended by Donnell Rawlings

August 5: Jacqueline Novak and Chris Laker
recommended by Mike Birbiglia

DCI Update: March 20

This Week at the Club ...

We are already sold out in the main showroom this week -- the exceedingly popular Tom Segura will be performing to eight completely full houses from Thursday through Sunday.

But we have two showrooms! There's a DMV showcase in the lounge on Friday night, and ComedySportz improv is back for its monthly shows on Saturday night. (There's also a kid-friendly improv show on Saturday afternoon, if you're looking for something to do with the family.)

Kumite DOUBLE Champion

cerromerussellOn March 18 (Saturday night) we had the latest edition of our Comedy Kumite stand-up tournament, which always features eight top-shelf local comedians. We ran the tournament twice in one night, and the same guy won both shows ... congrats to Cerrome Russell, who repeated the feat first accomplished by Jason Weems. Comedy Kumite returns on June 17 for the tenth edition!

New Shows

Spring has sprung, so what the hell, we just put a bunch of new shows on sale. The biggest news is that John Witherspoon's annual visit to the club is now in the books: Pops will be here July 13-16. We've also got another murder mystery show from Die Laughing Productions coming on June 21 -- this time they have an '80s theme. The Hey Frase podcast does another live show in our lounge on May 12, and as mentioned above Comedy Kumite X will be on June 17. We also added another Next Wave show, but that'll be covered in another post.

New Class

Instructor Chris Ulrich has set his spring version of Level 2 Improv. It'll begin April 30. And remember, we have three Beginning Improv classes starting in April, one with Anna Bethel and two with Chris.

DCI Update: March 13

This Week at the Club ...

It's going to busy at the club this week ... hopefully VERY busy. On Tuesday night, Mike Birbiglia performs two shows at the club where he once worked as a door guy, way back in the day. Those of you concerned about the weather: We fully expect these shows to happen. If there are any changes to club operations due to the weather, we post those on the front page of dcimprov.com and social media well in advance. So if you're worried, you can always check the website before you head out the door to the club.

Wednesday night we have some spirited discussions as Medium Cindy Kaza returns to the club.

godfreyThursday through Sunday,Godfrey headlines the main showroom, with feature act Rob Maher. That's two unbelievably solid pros on one show ...

And in the lounge, we've got a showcase of DC Improv stand-up class graduates Friday night, followed by Comedy Kumite 9 on Saturday night. Excellent local comedy.

New Shows

You might have noticed that last week we added a new show for our Next Wave series. Marshall Brandon will be in our lounge June 2-3, on the recommendation of Donnell Rawlings. Our April open mic night has also been scheduled for 4/26.

Spring improv classes

The new spring sections for Beginning Improv are now online. We have classes starting April 5, April 24 and April 29. All the specifics are available at the comedy school portion of the website.
