March 10-11lounge

In 2017, the DC Improv celebrates its 25th anniversary by remembering the past – and looking to the future. The Next Wave series features rising stars, recommended to us (and you) by some of our favorite DC Improv headliners. These are performers that comedy fans will be talking about for years to come, and this is your chance to see them up close at one of the most respected comedy venues in America.

Sean Patton is a fantastic stand-up and storyteller who made his DC Improv in September 2016 (at DC Brau presents Hopped Up). The New Orleans native has been seen on “Maron,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” and Comedy Central’s storytelling show “This is Not Happening.” In fact, Sean comes recommended to you by Ari Shaffir -- the host and creator of TINH, who called Sean’s “cumin” story the best one of season 2.

Hello, my name is Sean Patton. I’m a comedian based in Los Angeles and New York, by way of New Orleans. I began doing standup in the Crescent City and have since performed in comedy clubs across the US and Canada. I’ve also performed at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2011), Just for Laughs Chicago (2013), Just for Laughs Toronto (2013), and at Just for Laughs Montreal (2008, 2010, 2012). I’ve appeared on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham’ (2009), ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ (2010), and twice on ‘Conan’ (2011, 2013). 2013 also marked the release of my Comedy Central Half Hour. I’ve also been on ‘@midnight’ (2014, 2015) and will be on Season 2 of ‘The Meltdown’ (2015). As for acting, I’ve appeared on IFC’s ‘Maron’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Inside Amy Schumer’.

Those are the things I’ve done that I’m proud of. For a list of things I’ve done that I’m not so proud of, yeah right you ain’t never gonna know that! I love what I do, some of you will too (Thanks!), and some of you will not (Thanks for coming).

This is all I have, and I want to share it with you. Whomever you are.

Ari ShaffirA Silver Spring native, Ari has climbed the comedy ladder while always doing his own thing. He talks about race, religion, drugs and sex with a gleeful abandon that few people can match. Ari got a lot of buzz for his button-pushing web series “The Amazing Racist.” Lately, he’s been all over Comedy Central with two stand-up specials and as the host of his own storytelling series, “This Is Not Happening.” And on top of all that, he hosts two popular podcasts: The Skeptic Tank and Punch Drunk Sports.

Ari has featured Sean Patton several times on "This is Not Happening," and he said that Sean's "cumin" story was his personal favorite of all the stories told in season two.
