Listen to John on The DC Improv Podcast!

You probably remember John Witherspoon as Ice Cube's outrageously funny, dog-catching father in the "Friday" movie trilogy, where the two were the only cast members to appear in all three movies, including "Next Friday" & "Friday After Next." You may also remember him as Pops on the long-running sitcom "The Wayans Brothers," or as Spoon on The Tracy Morgan Show on NBC. You might have also heard him as the voice of Robert "Granddad" Freeman on the hit animated series "The Boondocks." No matter how familiar you are with John, once you see him perform live you completely understand why he's has earned his reputation as one of the funniest dads in America.

John's scene-stealing roles in "Boomerang," "Little Nicky," "House Party," "Vampire in Brooklyn," and "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka," has established him as a Hollywood mainstay. Witherspoon's resume spans over four decades and his performances in blockbuster movies, hit-television shows, and top-rated music videos have left an impression on legions of fans who instantly recognize his signature catchphrases like "Bang!Bang!Bang!Bang!" "You gotta co-ordinate!" and "Don't nobody go in the bathroom..."

According to the Orange County Register, John's expressive talent puts him in a class of his own. "Witherspoon is one of those performers who doesn't need a funny line to be funny. Just standing there in a truculent posture with a suspicious look, he is funny and enlivens every scene he's in." The Detroit-bred comic has proven that he is a Hollywood mainstay and continues to land coveted spots in some of America's favorite movies and television shows. Witherspoon continues to tour around the country with his wildly popular stand-up show, plus he's recently launched The John Witherspoon Collection, a complete line of humorous greeting cards called Spoon Cards.
