2 tickets available for 7:30. Late show SOLD OUT! A new generation of stars, recommended to you by DC Improv headliners. Jeff (Last Week Tonight) gets the nod from John Oliver!January 21lounge
In 2017, the DC Improv celebrates its 25th anniversary by remembering the past –- and looking to the future. The Next Wave series features rising stars, recommended to us (and you) by some of our favorite DC Improv headliners. These are performers that comedy fans will be talking about for years to come, and this is your chance to see them up close at one of the most respected comedy venues in America.
Jeff Maurer started doing comedy while also holding down a government job in Washington, DC. Many people took notice of his quick wit and sharp writing, and he eventually moved to New York and became a staff writer on HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.” Jeff is recommended by his boss, John Oliver – a fantastic comedian who headlined the Improv during his years as a “Daily Show” correspondent.
Jeff Maurer is one of the fastest-rising comedians on the East Coast. My - I mean his - quick wit and affable personality have made me a hit with audiences of all ages.
Jeff split his childhood between Oregon, Kentucky, Washington state, and Virginia, and his diverse experiences in those places shaped my unique perspective on the world. After college and a brief stint in the Peace Corps, Jeff began performing comedy, and my sharp insights and friendly demeanor quickly earned him a reputation as one of the most promising comics of my generation. I have performed at clubs, colleges, and festivals across the US and in Europe.
Was any of the previous paragraph written in the first person? If so, then I, an objective biography writer, made a mistake. My apologies.
Jeff currently resides in the New York area, where I write for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on HBO. He is available for parties and events, where my sharp wit and affable demeanor, as well as his quick insights and friendly personality, plus his affable insights, quick personality, sharp friendly, and other variations thereof, are sure to be a hit.

An Emmy- and Writer's Guild Award-winning writer, John Oliver was previously a correspondent for 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,' joining the show in 2006. He first came to prominence as a cutting-edge political stand-up performer in the UK with a string of TV appearances and sold-out solo shows at the Edinburgh Festival. Oliver won the Breakout Award at the Aspen Comedy Festival in 2007 and went on to write and star in the Comedy Central stand-up special 'John Oliver: Terrifying Times,' followed by the series 'John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show,' which he has hosted for four seasons. With longtime collaborator Andy Zaltzman, Oliver co-writes and co-presents the popular weekly satirical podcast The Bugle, which currently receives more than 500,000 downloads a month. He also has a recurring role on the comedy series 'Community.' In the summer of 2013, Oliver's tenure as guest host on 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart' earned strong critical reviews, and "Last Week Tonight" debuted on HBO in 2014.
John has headlined the DC Improv several times -- it's where he met Jeff Maurer, who was the feature act for one of those weekends.
