THE DC IMPROV COMEDY CLUB PRESENTS "PAY WHAT YOU CAN NIGHT" A Once A Month Series

In an effort for everyone to have the ability to experience the art of standup comedy the way it was intended to be seen, "Live," The DC Improv Comedy Club is pleased to announce our new monthly series, "Pay What You Can Night."

We understand that not all people are in a position to see live comedy due to their financial situations, now simply, "Pay What You Can."

The night returns Sunday, April 25th featuring comedian Brett Leake. Tickets may still be purchased in advance for this evening at our normal ticket price of $15.00. Tickets to "Pay What You Can" are available only the night of the show on a first come first served basis upon availability. Showtime is at 8:00p.m., and doors open for seating at 6:30p.m. Our two item minimum will not be enforced for this show; however our 18 years and older policy will remain in effect.

After that one night a month will be announced as "Pay What You Can Night." Please feel free to contact The DC Improv with any questions at 202 296-7008.

Thank you for supporting the arts, see you at the show.

Brett Leake worked as a standup comic from 1983 until 1997 when he began working as a sit-down standup comic. In 1998, he started to work also as a motivational speaker adding to his standup act, personal stories and what have been called 'philosophic lecturettes', that address using humor as a problem-solving device, and as a means to get more out of life. He performed at the Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center, and Wolftrap. Corporate clients include IBM, Toyota, and Ford.

Brett has facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy a hereditary, slowly progressive neuromuscular disease his paternal grandmother, three uncles, and his father lived with and that he shares with his brother, Derek. The experience has conditioned his sense of humor and of self. Brett has received both the National Humor Treasure Award for his contributions in the field of positive, life-affirming comedy and the Governor of Virginia's Caregiver Recognition Award for his role in providing live-in care for his dad.

In 1991, he became the first comic with a disability to appear on NBC's The Tonight Show about which Jay Leno said, "He broke up the whole room. People realized here's a man with a disability and he's not gonna' let it bother him." Other television appearances include Entertainment Tonight and the American Comedy Awards. In 2003, public broadcasting stations around the country began running his hour-long comedy special "Laughing Matters with Brett Leake."

His interests include geology, natural history, and the American Civil War. He enjoys visiting battlefields with his brother, Derek, birding and 'treeing' with his mother in the Shenandoah Valley, taking in a ballgame with his father, and watching his nephew, Philip, grow up. Brett Leake worked as a standup comic from 1983 until 1997 when he began performing as a sitdown standup comic.
